My Experiences with OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and Trinity Desktop.

As a Linux enthusiast who has tried many Linux distributions over the years, I think it is useful to write about my experiences.

As of July 12, 2025, I have written down some of my observations below.

As I mentioned, my computers have seen over 500 Linux distributions. I constantly switched between them, installing each new distribution with excitement and enthusiasm, but then switched again due to the issues that arose or in search of something better.

What does a person expect from a computer operating system? My basic expectation is that my computer responds quickly to my actions so that it doesn't keep me waiting.

I have been using Linux since the days of KDE3. I am currently writing these lines using Trinity Desktop instead of Plasma. Although Plasma has much more advanced features, I generally felt that it was slower than Trinity Desktop. I don't think there is a problem with speed, but Trinity Desktop needs improvement in terms of features. There are many areas that need improvement.

Finally, let's talk about why I switched to openSUSE. I noticed that openSUSE places special emphasis on stability. For example, installing a PlayOnLinux package from the package manager in openSUSE is sufficient for it to work. It downloads all dependencies and you can use it fully functional. This may not apply to every package, but openSUSE's attention to dependencies is an important feature.

Before this, I was using Arch-based distributions. While they are easy to customize, the appeal of the numerous programs available in the AUR was hard to resist. However, unlike openSUSE, issues like missing packages or open windows were always present.

So, what can be done to replicate the richness of AUR packages in openSUSE? In fact, it is also necessary not to install too many packages that could compromise system integrity. The Flathub source, which does not harm the core system integrity, resolves most of our package issues. In fact, choosing Flathub often means working with more stable programs.

In this case, a fast operating system that won't easily break down seems possible with the OpenSUSE and Trinity Desktop combination.

Some disadvantages should also be mentioned. A lot of customization work is required to make Trinity Desktop usable.

In conclusion, I will continue to use OpenSUSE and Trinity Desktop for a long time and recommend them.

• Dediğim gibi bilgisayarlarım 500 den fazla linux dağıtımını görmüştür. Hepsini yeni bir heyacanla ve severek kurduğum linux dağıtımlarını çıkan sorunlardan veya daha iyisi arayışından dolayı sürekli değiştirdim.
• Bir insan bir bilgisayar işletim sisteminden ne bekler? Benim beklentilerim en başta yaptığım işlemlerde hızlı tepki vererek bilgisayarımın beni bekletmemesi.
• Kde3 zamanından beri linux kullanıyorum . Şimdi de bu satırları plasma değilde trinity desktop üzerinden yazıyorum. Plasmanın çok daha gelişmiş özellikleri olmasına karşın trinity desktop a göre yavaş kaldığını çoğu kere hissettim. Bence hız bakımından sorun yok ama özellikler bakımından trinity desktop un geliştirilmesi lazım. Epey bir geliştirilmesi gereken tarafları var.
• Gelelim son olarak neden opensuse ye geçtiğim konusuna. Opensuse stabilitiye özel bir önem verdiğini gördüm. Örneğin sadece bir playonlinux paketini opensusede paket yöneticisinden kurmak çalışması için yeterli. Tüm bağımlılıkları indiriyor ve tam anlamıyla çalışır halde kullanabiliyorsun. Her paket için geçerli olmasada tam opensusenin bağımlılıkları ihmal etmemesi önemli bir özellik.
• Bundan önce de arch tabanlı dağıtımları kullanıyordum. Kolay özelleştirilebilir olmasının dışında aur da çok sayıda program havuzunun cazibesi herkese hoş gelmiştir. Ama bir open suse gibi değil her zaman açık bir pencere eksik bir paket vb sorun olmaktaydı.
• Peki opensuse de aurdaki paket zenginliğinin yerine ne yapılabilir? Aslında sistem bütünlüğünü bozacak çok sayıda paket yüklememek de gerekiyor. Temel sistem bütünlüğüne zarar vermeyen flathub kaynağı paket sorunlarımızı büyük oranda çözüyor. Hatta flathub tercih etmek bazen daha stabil programlarla çalışmak anlamına geliyor.
• Bu durumda kolay kolay bozulmayacak, hızlı bir işletim sistemi opensuse ve trinity desktop ikilisi ile mümkün görünüyor.
• Eksilerinden de biraz daha bahsetmek fayda var. Trinity desktop u kullanışlı hale getirmek epey özelleştirme çalışmaları gerektiriyor.
 Netice itibariyle sanırım uzun bir süre opensuse , trinity desktop kullanacağım tavsiye ederim.
